“Let’s go Joel!” Everyone cheered Joel de Visser (9) on as he held a plank position for a chance to dunk a specific senior.
On the Saturday of March 14th, the seniors and freshmen gathered on campus to participate in their own mini Eagle Games event, one that the Senior ExCom had planned for the freshmen as a reach-down activity. There were 5 different game stations, a dunk tank, a buffet dinner, and even a short worship session. This event replaced the original Eagle Games, which had been cancelled this year and left many seniors disappointed.
Before that Saturday, many seniors had never interacted with the freshmen, making this event a fun bonding experience for both grades before the seniors graduate in a few months. Each team had a mix of seniors and freshmen, which allowed for more interactions between the grades.
Gareth Goh (9) commented on the event, saying, “It was really fun and I think it was a good opportunity to get to know some of the seniors and some of my classmates better.”
Although the dunk tank was not the main focus of the event, it was the highlight of the afternoon. A group of senior volunteers lined up waiting for the freshmen, who were hyped about the prospect of dunking their seniors in a tub of ice-cold water.
Euodia Leung (12) recounts her dunking experience: “I am glad that I got dunked and that a certain freshman stopped recording before I dropped.”
After the dunking session, there was a buffet dinner for everyone to enjoy after a long afternoon of sweating and competing. Euodia Leung (12) also generously baked 100+ apple hand pies for dessert in celebration of Pi Day! Following dinner, two of the LD class members led some worship songs, rounding out the day with time with God.
The entire day was a success thanks to our activities coordinator, Christal Teoh (12), who said that she was “grateful for all the freshmen that showed up” and was “very happy that everything was smooth.” As a senior, I had never talked with more than a handful of freshmen before this event, and it gave me the opportunity to connect with more of them. As a freshman myself three years ago, I appreciated it when the upperclassmen really tried to connect with the underclassmen, and now, as a senior, I hope that we have achieved the same thing.
