JSB this year was one of those nights that really captured what Dalat is like. Every year, people have different expectations for the juniors, but this year, I think the juniors exceeded everyone’s expectations for JSB. It was creative, chaotic, and full of effort in the most unexpected ways. The juniors chose Hercules as their theme this year, and it stood out because it’s a theme that didn’t have to stay serious. Instead of just decorating around it, the juniors fully committed themselves to the theme, as it was very detailed and cohesive. Their play was easily one of the most memorable parts of the night. It wasn’t too serious, and that’s what made it so enjoyable. The juniors took something as grand as Hercules and turned it into something funny and genuinely entertaining. It showed how much thought and creativity they put into making the night special for the school.
Another memorable moment during JSB this year was the dinner. Wraps were served for dinner, which was creative and fit the theme, but it turned out to be more chaotic than everyone had expected. It was messy, a little hard to manage in formal clothes, and definitely not what most people pictured for a formal banquet. But in a way, it added to the experience, giving everyone something to laugh at and complain about, which made the night feel less stiff and more real.
And then there was the dessert, which was arguably many people’s highlight of the day. The tiramisu, without a doubt, was the highlight of the meal. After the unpredictable dinner, everyone agreed it was well-made and genuinely enjoyable, and they got excited when they announced that people could have seconds of dessert. As Ee Rynn (12) put it, “When Ler announced there were seconds for the tiramisu, I screamed and ran out to get more because it was the best part of the night.” It was a small detail, but it stood out and left a lasting impression.
Beyond the food and performance, it was evident that the juniors put in a lot of effort behind everything. They created a thoughtful and fun experience full of moments we’ll remember long after the night ended.
