At Dalat, the ACSC tournaments are the culmination of an entire varsity sports season. It is the tournament each Varsity athlete trains for and works toward during the on- and off-season for their respective sports. Yes, there are other tournaments, but a gold in those does not matter as much as winning it all at ACSC.
This is also very true for the Dalat Varsity Track and Field team, even though earlier in the season, they went down to ISKL for the Twin Towers Track meet and put on a clinic on how to beat the brakes off another team. The Track Eagles, or Treagles for short, had a taste of what it meant to obtain a complete victory over another team. But this didn’t faze the team; this didn’t get them on their high horse. The veteran athletes on the team knew that a victory at ISKL did not mean a victory at ACSC, and that to obtain a complete victory as they did at ISKL, they would need to work harder.
And that they did, tirelessly day after day, the track team worked their tails off to do their best, all for the goal of winning at ACSC, all until the week of ACSC arrived. The Eagles were ready to compete. When asked about how ready he felt for ACSC, Caleb Evans (12) says, “My intensive training with Matthias prepared me well for the three-hundred-meter holding hands backward relay.” Unfortunately, to Caleb Evans' later dismay, there was not a three-hundred-meter holding hands backward relay, so all of his training for the event with Matthias Seeveratnam (12) was for naught.
But the other training that the treagles had done had paid off well with multiple podiums on only day one of the competition from Aaron Morrison (12), Alex Misra (12), Aaron Andrews (12), Logan Kaloo (12), Aidan Boyd (12), Jackson Closs (11), Amanda Lim (12), Eliza Setzfand (11), Addison Elliot (11), and Anya Gounder (10). With points from podium finishes and athletes placing in the top eight in other events, the Boys and girls were well set up for the second day of competition, with both teams second in their divisions.
The next day was much of the same for the treagles, with more utter domination on the track. But this domination was not like before at ISKL; this domination was lesser and not as secure as ISKL with other teams also being able to compete and dominate in different events as well. This all culminated at the end of the day with the Treagles coming up a bit short of their goal of complete domination; the boys had to settle for a close second and the girls a close fourth with a combined team third place. This would have been terrible and disheartening for the Treagles if they weren’t just the best team of all time. Aaron Andrews says, “It was mega.” This was his response to Track, which just shows that whatever the Treagles do, they do it with good attitudes as the best track team in the world.
