Things might be slowing down for students as the break approaches, but the athletes must face one more obstacle before they get their well-deserved rest.
Last Friday, the varsity volleyball teams travelled to KL to partake in the annual Twin Towers tournament. Participating in the tournament wasn’t a decision for the mere meek, as it featured matches against state teams and other schools. Fortunately, the volleyball teams maintained their composure and strength to play through the two days of matches.
The beginning was tough for both teams, as they faced losses, but it gauged their engines to grab a couple dubs before the end of the first day. After the games, our teams still had another day of work, so they took the night to recuperate and rest in their hotel rooms.
The second day was no different in pressure and adrenaline, and our volleyball teams were not the only ones more motivated to grab gold. In the aftermath of the battles, the smoke cleared from the chaos, and our athletes came out victorious, with the boys grabbing gold and the girls brandishing bronze.
“When we won the tournament, I was filled with excitement and joy,” said Suyoung Lim (12), “especially when we were able to beat the KL State team and get our first ever Twin Towers tournament win.”
While the volleyball teams were fighting on their respective battlefields, the varsity soccer teams stayed to participate in their own tournament and protect our home base. Just like their volleyball brothers and sisters, the soccer teams met face-to-face with teams from all around the island.
The boys showed great determination and strength in their matches, but fell short of the podium’s top. On the other hand, the girls banded together to face their opponents and end the tournament with a trophy in their hands.
Although their tournaments have concluded, our athletes’ work remains unfinished as their final bout awaits at the ACSC tournaments. As they finish up their last practices, a burning question lingers in their minds: Do they have what it takes?
