With leis around their necks and smiles on their faces, the juniors welcomed the seniors into the Heritage Chapel for an unforgettable event: After Sneak Dinner. I walked in with my friends, giggling from the juniors cheering at the seniors as they walked down the road leading to the event area.
As I was in awe observing the decorations in the room, I realized that the Heritage Chapel was transformed into a vibrant festivity with cut-outs of food trucks for stalls, matching the theme of the dinner: a night market!
“Oh, the ambience is so nice!” Catherine Komensen (12) exclaimed as she analyzed the room with adoration. I agreed, enjoying the bright fairy lights strung around the room and the lanterns that warmly lit the dinner tables.
The juniors planned a variety of activities for us seniors such as a partner activity where friends were brought onto stage. One of them would wear a blindfold and the other would navigate the other verbally through an obstacle course, and the goal was to get to the other side of the stage without touching any of the barriers. After that, a name-game that involved seniors (including me) and a trivia game about our classmates.
After that, it was time for dinner! The idea was that we had to go up to the “food trucks,” each designated for a different cultural cuisine and get the food and drinks from the juniors working at those “food trucks.” Karaoke by the seniors and a dance session by the juniors followed after, receiving applause from both seniors and sponsors alike.
“It’s really unique and fresh,” Ruha Kim (12) said, admiring the concept of the event.
When the event came to a close, I honestly felt quite solemn. It still hasn’t quite hit me that this is my final year at Dalat, after spending my years here since I was in Kindergarten. I’ve known so many of my classmates for years, and the thought of us graduating next year makes me kind of sentimental.
