After Sneak Dinner: Tuesday Nightmarket’s Free 2010s Karaoke Session
For this year’s After-Sneak Dinner, the juniors transformed the school’s Heritage Chapel into a bustling night market, creating a festive atmosphere with a welcome display for the seniors. Inside, the venue was transformed into a culinary hub, and food trucks awaited us, offering a selection of Korean, Mexican, and Malaysian cuisines. The space was illuminated with colorful lights, fostering a lively ambience that hummed with music. Memories from Sneak were preserved in laminated photographs, adding a personal touch for the seniors. A dedicated dessert truck provided a variety of desserts like lemonade, milk tea, and shaved ice. Notably, I must mention the comically shaped cotton candy that was served.
After dinner, the Juniors hosted their own fun twist of “House of Games,” as they selected a few names to rhyme or combine: Lee Yan Tan-Superman, Jane Lee-Mediterranean Sea. Of all the phonetic variations I’ve encountered, never had I expected Na Young Ko-Pokemon Go? (My personal favourite was Stella Park of the Covenant.)
For the main entertainment event, the Juniors from the entertainment committee delivered a dynamic performance of a range of familiar songs, from “Gangnam Style” to “Babyshark” to “Soda Pop.” Incredibly, their meticulous choreography was a true star of the night; the performance elicited laughter and aroused cheers from the audience. Lucy Seong (12) recounted, “My favourite thing was when they started dancing and Jaewon danced to Soda Pop with a straight face.”
Ee Rynn Ong (12) expressed, “My favourite thing was the entertainment because the dancers did an amazing job performing, and the games were interactive with the seniors so we could actually participate too!”
Following the main performance, the spotlight was shifted to the seniors, who were given the stage for an impromptu karaoke session. Given two mics per group, song selections were diverse. The selections ranged from a seismic version of “Hoist the Colors” to pop hits like “Nothing Holding me Back,” “Eenie Meenie,” “Boyfriend,” and “Party in the USA,” then culminating the crowd with a classic, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
After the event, Rebecca Seo (11) expressed, “It went pretty well. The planning was all good and on time, the food was well made, the decoration was finished on time, and the clean-up went fine. Despite all the concerns that could’ve been better, seeing seniors being happy and enjoying themselves in the event that we planned was so thrilling and touching.”
The juniors’ collective enthusiasm and coordinated efforts surpassed all expectations, making it more than just a welcome-back dinner; it served as a reminder of the community we have in Dalat.
Thank you, Class of 2027!
