The dazzling night began with cameras clicking and pearly white smiles. Students arrived around 5:30 camera ready to survive the night. Parents, with smiles on their faces, took out their trusty iphones (and androids) to take as many pictures of their kids as possible while dates exchanged gifts and took prom transition tiktoks to remember the night. As 6:00 struck, students made their way into the harbor hall.
With the Arabian scenery and the blue colored genie pointing to a mirror at the front corner, the theme slowly revealed itself, and everyone knew it was Aladdin. Students got to their tables which were filled with gems and other Aladdin theme decor. However, the seniors had a little special something since it was their last JSB, they were gifted with little genie lamp keychains with their names on it and a scroll with a tribute to honor each and every one of the seniors.
At every table, there were the thirsty people, who socialized a little too much when they were taking pictures with their dates and friends, they were interested in the water in cups and the jug of lemon tea on the table, on the other hand, there were the curious and bored ones who couldn’t help but look at the schedule, in which they discovered the night’s food would be shawarma, igniting excitement in some people.
“I never expected that we would have shawarma as a part of our JSB dinner so I was pretty surprised, the food turned out pretty good and I was impressed,” says Jing Xuan Leow (12).
While students were admiring the decoration, the night began with Lee Yan Tan (11) giving an opening speech that JSB was about to start. The entertainment of the night began with a few acts of the junior’s rendition of Aladdin and tributes to the seniors. Then, tables were slowly let out to get their dinners. Dinnertime took a while and when everyone got their foods, the juniors resumed their play. There were laughs all around as there were funny moments during the play. It was an enjoyable play, and every good show is accompanied by desserts which happened right after the middle of the night. After dessert, the night presumed with the schedule just like before.
As fast as lighting, the night was suddenly over. Students decided to stay for a bit to get their pictures for the night but were indirectly kicked out for good reasons as the juniors had to stay back a little later to clean up. The night was something special indeed, for some, it was their first JSB, for others, it was their last. But, the feelings were mutual, it was a fun night. As cars piled up to pick up students, they waved their goodbyes and said their see yous.
Some students might have called it a night and went home but we all know the true party starts right after…
