After the amazing Arabian Night at JSB on April 4th, the senior class didn’t sleep the day away—instead, they got up early to pull off a second party in one weekend.
After a late night consisting of McDonald's ice cream trips, after-parties, and sleepovers following this year's Aladdin-themed Junior-Senior Banquet, the senior class woke up bright and early the next morning to begin preparing for the “After-JSB Dinner”. This long-standing tradition is a way for the senior class to treat the juniors to a fun, lighthearted evening and thank them for the months of hard work they invested in the previous night’s JSB.
Starting at 9:00am, the class of 2025 met and began hashing out the logistics of the dinner. The juniors would arrive starting at 5:45pm; that meant every second was needed to pull something together by the evening. Utilizing every spare moment, but more importantly, everyone’s unique talents, was crucial to their success.
The class began by picking a theme to “spoof” the junior’s Aladdin theme. Next, everyone split up into different committees: entertainment, logistics, food, decoration, and tech. The beauty of this event was in how teamwork was displayed. When one group tackled the parody entertainment, another group cooked up delicious tacos and brownies – a personal favorite part of the night for attendee Catherine Komensen (11) –, another created a soundtrack, and another used their artistic abilities to redecorate Harbor Hall, magic happened.
After a tiring day, seeing the juniors appreciate their jokes, decorations, and food was a definite highlight for the senior class. Esther Jung (12), vice president of the senior ExCom, talked about her favorite part of the after-JSB dinner and said, “I loved seeing all the juniors come and participate in the dances and enjoy themselves.” Both juniors and seniors together had a blast spontaneously dancing to the Macarena during the dessert break and ending the night off with an eighty-person-long conga line.
Finley White (12), senior ExCom’s Photographer Media Manager, said, “I think that what makes After JSB dinner so impactful is [that]…it’s a way for us seniors to display teamwork in a fun and less stressful way than JSB was for us last year.” She continues, “The vibes were immaculate the whole day, and it was so much fun to be part of and see all different groups of our grades working together throughout the day whether or not they’re close with each other.”
Finley’s explanation sums up the significance of this often-forgotten-about tradition excellently. Seeing the class come together once again to pull off a challenging feat boosts class morale and reminds them of how amazing their classmates are.
