Who Knew Normal Could Be So Special?

By Millie Morgan

After so many years of closed campus and little to no after-school activities, it has been thrilling to see the campus full of life and fun activities. It’s almost as if it were pre-covid, and dare I say, normal? There is a sense of surreality when watching groups play volleyball after school or seeing parents go inside to pick up their kids or talk to teachers. They’re small privileges we didn’t even notice till they were gone, but now that they’re back, they’re better than ever.

Not only have sports practices and clubs resumed, but this past week has marked the start of the competition season. Games, tournaments, and international travel are all planned for this year's sports seasons! With the games held on Dalat’s campus comes the nostalgic and spirited cheers of the crowd (GO EAGLES). Gone are the days of intramurals, and wondering if they will be canceled in the near future. Get your voices ready to cheer because we are back in business!

The varsity volleyball teams played against Youth Park this past Tuesday at Dalat. Many teachers, students, and parents came to cheer on the players; there was a buzz of energy, expectation, and suspense you could see on everyone’s face.

In reference to the cheers, posters, and screams coming from the sidelines during the game, Grace Neeley (12), varsity team captain, said, “during the game, it hyped me up, and I loved it,” and Jeta Anderson (12) said, “I could feel the different reactions from the crowd, it got really quiet and tense when the score was tied, and you could feel the excitement when we scored a point.”

Not only did the volleyball teams have their first games, but both the girl's and boys varsity soccer teams played against Soccer Experience this week. After years of waiting for sports to return, the time is finally here and the excitement is electric! If covid has taught me anything, it’s to take advantage of the moments, people, and opportunities in front of you because you never know what’s going to happen. So please, take advantage of every moment you have to cheer on your classmates, make memories, and enjoy the competition!
