…6:30 PM on a special Friday night, chairs in the front row of the Harbour Hall are moved out, and the choir stand has returned to the stage. Four speakers of the night, Abe Johnson (12), Sharon Baek (12), Yewon Lee (12), and Aaron Andrews (12), are nervously staring at the stage as the worship session is ending… It is the final week of February, where another great Missions Emphasis Week (MEW), along with renewed praise, prayer, and conviction, returned to Dalat. As the night continues, the speakers walk up one by one to the stage to share each of their testimonies of continued doubt, fear, confusion, and the surrender found in God’s embrace.
Besides the fact that every speaker of the night has lived through some level of struggle and loss growing up in a Christian pastor and/or missionary household, the testimonies intersected in various areas of spiritual turmoil, offering consoling and encouraging accounts for the audience undergoing their own spiritual battles.
Looking back to the night, Yewon Lee (12), one of the best speakers of the night, recalls, “It was honestly an amazing experience getting to share my story with everyone, because my one hope was that someone out there who was going through the same thing would be able to feel seen.” Furthermore, because each of the testimonies is spoken by the Dalat Seniors themselves, the stories hold a special value and impact, both to the audience and the speaker. With a smile, Lee adds, “It was undoubtedly the highlight of my senior year!”
Following the testimonies was another highlight of the day: Prayer. With worship in the back and Leadership Development (LD) students in the front, prayer continued through the night. At this time, students, parents, teachers, and staff were all able to pray for each other and for the unreached groups of the world, applying and actualizing the mission God has called this community to.
As iron sharpens iron, through MEW, the worship, the prayers, and the stories shared, the Dalat community was once again unified and strengthened. Rebekah Wood (12), who helped organize and serve at this year’s MEW as an LD student, notes, “It was really great praying for people, and I was encouraged to see how impactful my friends' senior stories were.” Abe Johnson (12), another LD student, adds, “… it was an incredibly enriching feeling to be able to impact others with the things God has shown me.” Beyond singing and listening, MEW was a time that called each member of the Dalat community to transform, serve, and glorify God in every moment.
…Of course, the night had to end with the classic, “I Thank God” by Maverick City Music. With another round of joyful thanksgiving for God who picks us up and turns us around, the last night of MEW 2026 marked an end.
Lord, let the fire you’ve ignited in each one’s heart continue to burn in passion for you.
Let this community, this world, live for your glory only.
In Jesus name, Amen.
