It was day 2 of ACSC, and we had to wake up extra early for a service project. Our service project was to work with an organization that helped disabled people. This organization brought around a hundred disabled people, and our goal was to teach them basketball.
“It was very fun to work with these people and to give them an experience that they will never forget,” said a source. Our service project lasted for around 2-2:30 hours, and then it was straight back into the tournament.
We had one more game in our pool play against ICS Hong Kong. We felt extremely confident playing against them and were sure we could secure second seed in our pool. The game started out well for us as we knocked down a majority of our shots. Around the beginning of the second quarter, we lost momentum, and ICS Hong Kong made a push to cut our lead to only two. After a timeout, we got ourselves together and were able to go on a run that would put us up by nearly 20 at half. From there, we were able to calmly move through them without much struggle. Securing second was good for our confidence as a team.
That night, we were scheduled to play YISS in our first elimination game. We started the game off well and ended the first quarter up by 4 points. However, this wouldn’t last long as YISS made a strong effort in the second quarter and put themselves ahead by 3. We realized that this game would be harder than we thought. In the second half, we managed to put up a good fight and took the lead early in the third. We were able to maintain this lead in the fourth and came out with the win. It felt extremely good to win our first elimination game and it set a good tone for us moving forward.
“It was a hard fought game and it felt really satisfying to win,” said one of our players reflecting on the game.
