Splosh! Splat! The senior class gathered around as each person smashed paint onto the tarp. Swirls of color surrounded the class logo, each handprint different from the next.
The seniors, hands plastered with primary colors, reached over one another to make their mark on the large tarp. The Senior Sunrise took place the morning before school started, January 14. Christal Teoh, senior activity coordinator, said that the sunrise was “a good way to begin our last semester at Dalat.” Seniors came together the morning before school to take one last breath before diving headfirst into the last stretch of high school.
That day marked the start of these eighty-five days, the second semester of senior year. These eighty-five days will be the last that we’ll spend as high school students. For some people, they’ll spend the last semester doing the least that they’ve done since the start of their schooling experience (that’s me!). Others need to pay for this last semester while working on their college applications. Being an international school, we have students going all over the world, so there’s basically a revolving door of students going in and out of Mrs. Jones’ office all year long. For students working on their applications, this last semester is just one more chance to prove themselves to their universities. I would say there are other students still working their hardest in their final lap, but those types of students are few and far between.
Regardless of what type of student each senior happens to be, we’re all going through this last stretch together. We’re going through the most brutal stretch of high school so far. Seniors are either battling pure laziness or pure college application anxiety. In these eighty-five days, we’ll stress over our last few tests, we’ll reminisce over our four years of high school, and we’ll leave a lasting impression on this campus. Most important of all, we’ll enjoy our last eighty-five days together before heading all across the globe.
