After two long weeks, AP Tests are over. While underclassmen still have to worry about all their finals, many seniors, myself included, are freed from further tests. Whether none of our classes have finals, or we’ve qualified to be excluded from the finals, we are freed from the binds of standardized testing – for this year, at least. And so we have the opportunity to spend our now more open schedule on the things that really matter – the people around us.
This freedom allows for, hopefully, well-needed and well-earned time to spend the quickly dwindling time with friends. Or, as Eric Shyu (12) says, “APs are finally over. I can enjoy my time watching shows again.” Whether the new free time is used for socialization or relaxations, there is no doubt that the seniors are grateful for it.
With AP Tests over, and most AP classes all but free blocks now, many seniors have also entered a strange, liminal zone somewhere between finished and finishing. As Daniel Willoughby (12) puts it, "While it doesn't really feel all that different, since classes are still going on, it is kind of surreal to think that yeah, everything is technically finished now. There isn't much at all between now and actually leaving Dalat for good, and that's kind of scary to think about."
And it’s true – the date of graduation approaches steadily, and the new horizons, varied as they might be, are an inevitability now. The senior class is approaching something new, and with the stress of APs over, our minds are left free to stress about new dilemmas.
However, not all the seniors are free – there are many that still must study for their finals. And for those who do, I mourn. But the rest of us will make sure to enjoy the free time enough for the all of us.
