The JV Boys Basketball Team Triumph!

Felix Tobias

The JV boy’s basketball team has pulled off an amazing start to their season. They won the Tenby tournament in style, winning each game with more than 10 points difference. They were led by Jae Cho (10) and Joshua Koay (10), who both scored 50 apiece over three games, combining for 100 points out of the 164 points scored by the team throughout the whole tournament.

The team was coached by first time basketball coach Mrs. Bernhardt. “The first two games were nerve racking for me. But during the finals, I became more vocal and for the first time, I felt like a basketball coach,” Mrs. Bernhardt said. This shows how the team really grew in this tournament. Not just the players but the coach as well.

The team is still young but shows great determination and drive to compete at the highest level, proving it by winning their first tournament. When asked about the tournament, Koay said “This tournament was huge for us. We grew as a team and we enjoyed playing with one another. The win is just a bonus for our efforts.”

Every competition or tournament the team plays in will surely help them to bond. Our JV boys have really made us proud.

Coming in as an underdog, after losing lots of their players to the varsity team, they kept on fighting and keeping their spirits up. During the finals against Tenby, the home team and tournament favorite came out strong. Our boys leading scorer, Koay, had been struck with a toe injury which prevented him from jumping, resulting in a cold shooting game. That didn’t stop him from contributing and he ended up with 13 assists and 7 points. Other players stepped up and led the team to victory. This start has gotten us excited for their season, promising to be the best one yet.
