Spiritual Emphasis Week

Richard Baek

‘GODISNOWHERE’ - What do you see from these letters? God is now here? God is nowhere? Chad Corman, the speaker of Spiritual Emphasis Week (September 13-15), came to share with us how important perspectives are. With those letters, Chad taught us how inner desires and thoughts shift perspective. And this perspective can affect attitude, behavior, and life direction. Therefore, perspective has consequences. For example, he shared a story of Paul: when Paul was still called Saul, God touched him and changed his perspective toward Jesus; and so, Saul changed the direction of his life with the new name Paul.

Chad also emphasized that every individual is the creation of God. He said we are built, created, and beautifully designed for special purposes that God want us to do. Each one of us has a special and unique purpose for God. And we must answer these questions: Who are we? What is our purpose in him? To know who we are, we have to know who Jesus is, the visible image of the invisible one. We need to know what he came down on Earth to do because this relationship is desired by the Creator.

Aidan Frusher (12) said, “SEW reminded me of last year’s MEW, but seemed more personal and focused on Christ. It was not just a general message, like go help kids in Africa. Instead, Mr. Corman seemed to try to reach all of us and to point us to Christ. It was very well done; props to you, Mr. Corman.”

SEW provided a time and space for us to worship God and walk another step closer to God. Andrew McClay and his worship team began their worship with ‘O Come to the Altar,' and ‘All Who Are Thirsty’ to create a welcoming atmosphere to worship freely and sing along with their neighbors.

Isabel Smith (11), one of the worship band members, said “I thought worship felt a lot more free than it has past years, and that was really encouraging. It made me worship with even more joy than I felt before.”

Spiritual Emphasis Week truly was a time to have a closer relationship with God, and also deeply think about who we are and what is our purpose. There is no right or wrong answer to this question because everyone has a unique ability, talent, and purpose.
